Hockey Helps the Homeless 2023

Boys pic with WillieThe 10th annual Hockey Helps the Homeless Waterloo Region (HHTHWR) fundraising tournament is coming to RIM Park on Friday, October 27th.

Each fall in this incredible fundraiser, community members (including U18 AAA Wolves alumni) play in a fun, one-day hockey tournament with exNHLers and Olympians and help to raise money to aid the homeless in the Region of Waterloo. The funds are distributed through the following partnering charities:

  • Cambridge Shelter
  • YW Kitchener-Waterloo
  • oneROOF Youth Services
  • Lutherwood
  • House of Friendship

At last year’s tournament, $285,000 was raised in just one day, with the top individual fundraisers being Wolves’ alumni Colin and Corey Way (pictured above with our own Willy Huber). The Ways were part of Team Piller’s. Those funds boosted the tournament’s 9-year grand total raised to an incredible $1.9 million!!

WMHA Coach of the Year

Congratulations to our own Head Coach, Brian Burnley, on being named Waterloo Minor Hockey Association’s AAA Coach of the Year.

“I was honoured to recently receive the WMHA’s AAA Coach of the Year Award. I see this not just as an individual award but an overall team award, too. Our coaching staff could not succeed without a terrific behind-the-scenes team propping us up.”

Brian, a D1 certified coach, has almost 30 years of coaching experience in minor hockey. He himself played 3 years in Junior A (Tier II) in the CCHL and, as a major midget hockey player, played in the Air Canada (now Telus) Cup.

Brian will be returning for 2023-24 (his fifth season with the U18 AAA Wolves) for his third season as Head Coach.

Thank You

We were lucky to have so many new as well as longtime sponsors this season. Thank you to all of our sponsors for your enthusiastic support of the U18 AAA Wolves. You are key to our success and your support allows us to continue to provide the youth of Waterloo with a first class AAA program.
